Welcome Longhorn Nation!
Lanier High School is making tremendous progress this spring towards our August opening! We are in the process of developing our school crest with a group of student leaders and community members and we are also working with our staff on Lanier High School’s vision and mission. The Lanier Cluster has adopted a slogan to brand our Pre-K – 12 programs. Lanier students are “Empowered to Learn, Lead, and Succeed.” As I meet with students, parents, and community members over the next few months, I will be discussing what these powerful words mean for a Lanier student. Our next opportunity for you to come out and show your support as parent and/or community member will be on April 22nd at our Charter PTSA meeting. The meeting is being held at Lanier Middle School at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Many of our staff members will be in attendance as well if you would like the opportunity to meet them.
The construction of the facility is concluding and my small staff and I should be able to move into the building on May 3. Although I will miss the sunlight and fresh air from our lovely trailer office, it will be exciting to move into our permanent home. As we move in, all of our furniture and equipment will follow and we will begin the process of setting up our learning environments.
In May we plan to give our students a sneak peak of what is to come in the fall. The rising 9th grade class is going to come over for a brief tour prior to their Eighth Grade Picnic/Celebration and I am working on an after school time for our students coming from North Gwinnett to take a peak. There will be many boxes and teams of people assembling furniture and placing equipment during May and June, so the building will not be ready for public view until July. Mark your calendar for Saturday, July 17, to attend our “Roam the Halls” of Lanier High School event from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This will be a fun-filled family affair and there will be a list of scheduled events during the day to be posted soon.
As we draw nearer to our opening day of August 9th, please keep in contact with us by signing up for our weekly e-newsletter and checking the website for updates on scheduled meetings for students to get involved with band, sports, clubs, and other activities! I want every student at Lanier High to be involved in at least one activity. Many students and parents have asked about our school hours and lunch schedule. We will begin our first class at 7:10 a.m. and will be dismissed for the afternoon at 2:10 p.m., much the same as other high schools in the area. We will open with one hour long lunch period provided that our student population stays at its current projection of around 900. The positive energy and excitement has been tangible at the last few functions that Lanier High School as hosted and I know the anticipation will continue to grow as we approach August.
